RAMALLAH, PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES: A Palestinian prisoner who has been on hunger strike for more than 80 days is being held in “difficult” conditions, according to his wife, who spoke to AFP on Friday after an advocacy organization warned his health was deteriorating.

According to the organization, Khader Adnan, 45, a key official in the Islamic Jihad militant group in the north of the occupied West Bank, was arrested by Israeli forces on February 5 at his residence near the city of Jenin.

He is being detained in administrative detention, a contentious Israeli policy where people are detained without charge. Randa Mousa, Adnan’s wife, said he was being kept at the clinic at Ramla jail in central Israel.

His wife stated that he is refusing any help and medical examinations and is being confined in a cell with very severe confinement conditions. She went on to say that Israel has refused to transfer him to a civilian hospital and has refused to allow his lawyer to visit him.

According to his wife, Adnan has already staged four hunger strikes in Israeli prisons. He was scheduled to appear in front of the Ofer military court in the West Bank on Thursday, but the hearing on his release was canceled, according to Mousa. According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, his position is “very serious.”

The advocacy group demanded Adnan’s release “in light of the dangerous health condition that he has reached’’, without elaborating on how they were aware of his condition.
