Palestinian Freed in Gaza Truce Killed by Israeli Forces in West Bank

NABLUS: A Palestinian prisoners watchdog on Tuesday said that a man killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank last day had been freed during the November ceasefire in the Gaza war.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said the 18-year-old had been freed on November 25 during the one-week truce that saw the release of scores of Palestinian prisoners.

According to the Palestinian health ministry in Ramallah, Tariq Ziad Abdul Rahim Daoud was killed by the occupation forces near the town of Azzun, east of Qalqilya, in the north of  West Bank.

The Israeli military said the alleged attacker had fired at an Israeli civilian in Qalqilya city, despite Israel forbidding its citizens from visiting Palestinian areas. The Israeli civilian was injured along with two Palestinians, the military in a statement said.

Hamas later issued a statement saying Tariq Daoud was a member of its armed wing.

Violence has increased in the West Bank since October 7 while at least 619 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops or settlers.

Meanwhile, the Gaza health ministry said that Israel’s war on Gaza, now in its 312th day, has killed at least 39,929 Palestinians mostly women and children. It said over 92,240 Palestinians were also injured in the war, with 10,000 estimated to be buried under rubble.
