KAMPALA, Uganda: The Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations (UN) has called on the members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to pressurize Israel to implement a ceasefire in Gaza.

Rayid Mansour addressing the 120 members of the movement on Monday said that despite the UN General Assembly and the Security Council’s resolutions, a ceasefire remained elusive.

The Non-Aligned Movement, formed after Cold War, has always played a key role in decolonization processes.

Mansour went to say that Israel was leading an apartheid of the Palestinians in the ongoing war that started on October 7.

Gaza death toll surpasses 24,100

Health officials in Gaza on Monday reported that the death toll from ongoing relentless Israeli military bombardment has surpassed 24,100, mostly women and children.

Rayid Mansour said: We are still under this colonial occupation by Israel and we see genocide committed on our people, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

He went on to say that Palestinians were thankful to South Africa for filing a lawsuit against Israel at the International Court for Justice. The envoy said Palestinians are the last kids around the block as all of the other meber states accomplished their national independence and put an end to colonialism.

Extremist Benjamin Netanyahu has previously said Israel will pursue its war against Hamas until victory and will not be stopped by anyone, including the International Court of Justice.

Israel denies allegations of genocide in Gaza, saying it makes every effort to avoid harming civilians.

At least 30 of the NAM’s members are likely to attend the heads of states’ meeting at the end of the weeklong deliberations. Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni will take over as president of the Non-Aligned Movement for the next three years.
