WEST BANK, Gaza: A 19-year-old Palestinian detainee, Zahir Tahseen Raddad, died in an Israeli hospital on Sunday after being detained and injured by Israeli forces in Saida, a town in the northern West Bank.
According to a joint statement by the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner Society, Raddad was reportedly used as a human shield by Israeli soldiers, who placed him in front of a military vehicle during a raid.
His death brings the number of Palestinian detainees who have died in Israeli custody since October 7, 2023, to 23. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian territories, particularly after Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, has heightened tensions across the region.
The West Bank has seen significant casualties, with at least 641 Palestinians killed and thousands more injured. The International Court of Justice recently condemned Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, calling it unlawful and demanding the evacuation of settlements.
