RAMALLAH: The Palestinian Authority said on Saturday that the UN agency for Palestinian refugees needed “maximum support” to address the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The call comes in response to the suspension of funding by donor countries, prompted by Israel’s accusations that several UNRWA staff were allegedly involved in the October 7 attack.

The Palestinian Authority’s minister for civilian affairs Hussein Al-Sheikh took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, saying they need strong support for UN agency, and instead of halting assistance, they seek continued backing.

In a statement, the health ministry in Gaza said that around 26,257 people have been killed in Gaza since the war broke out between Hamas and Israel. A health ministry statement said 174 Palestinian people were killed during the last 24 hours. It added that 64,797 have been injured since the war began in the Strip.

Meanwhile, Israeli army continued its offensive in Gaza’s Khan Yunis despite the UN’s International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) judgement which called on Israel to prevent actions of genocide in the Strip.

The Israeli military is continuously targeting parts of the Gaza Stirp, Khan Yunis and West Bank since October 7 last year when Hamas made an arm attempt to liberate its territory from occupied troops.  Concerns mounted for civilian population in Khan Yunis, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
