RAMALLAH: Palestine has strongly condemned Papua New Guinea’s decision to open its embassy in occupied Jerusalem, stating that it constitutes a blatant violation of international law and clear UN resolutions pertaining to the city’s legal and political status, as well as the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
In a press release reported by the Palestinian news agency Wafa, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterized this move as an aggression against the Palestinian people and their rights. It viewed Papua New Guinea’s decision as aligning with the wrong side of history and as detrimental to the prospects of achieving peace through the principle of a two-state solution. Furthermore, it deemed the move as an unacceptable act of normalization with the adversary and its transgressions.

The ministry also emphasized that this decision stands in direct defiance of relevant United Nations resolutions, occurring at a time when the Zionist entity is intensifying its violations and aggression against the Palestinian people, their properties, their homeland, and their sacred sites.
Palestine reasserted its commitment to addressing the positions of countries that have either opened embassies in Jerusalem or relocated their embassies to the city. It pledged to undertake political, diplomatic, and legal measures to hold them accountable for what it deemed unjustified aggression against the Palestinian people and their rights.
The Palestinian Authority called on the government of Papua New Guinea to promptly reconsider this decision and retract it.
