ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation in Pakistan, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator, witnessed an increase of 1.05% for the combined consumption group during the week that ended on 4 May, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reported on Friday.
The SPI was recorded at 254.84 points in comparison to 252.20 points during the past week, the PBS data showed. Compared to last year’s week, the SPI for the combined consumption group increased by 48.35%.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group, up to 17,732 rupees, witnessed a 0.94% surge and increased to 260.54 points from last week’s 258.12 points.
Meanwhile, the SPI for the consumption group from 17,732-22-888 rupees; 22,889-29,517 rupees; 29,518-44,175 rupees; and above 44,175 rupees recorded an increase of 1.03%, 1.05%, 1.09%, and 1.02% respectively.
During the week, out of 51 goods, prices of thirty (58.82%) items increased, 09 (17.65 percent) items decreased, and 12 (23.53per cent) items remained unchanged.
The items, which recorded a surge in their average rates on a week-on-week, included Chicken (8.91 percent), Potatoes (3.99per cent), Powdered Milk (3.81per cent), Pulse Gram (1.96per cent), Pulse Masoor (1.83per cent), Eggs (1.81per cent), Mutton (1.71per cent), Pulse Mash (1.58per cent), Cooked Daal (1.36per cent), and Bread (1.13per cent), non-food items, Gents Sponge Chappal (58.05per cent), Gents Sandal (33.36per cent), Ladies Sandal (14.31per cent) and Washing Soap (1.27per cent).
The products that recorded a decrease in their average rates on a week-on-week basis included Onions (16.69per cent), Garlic (3.44per cent), Tomatoes (3.41per cent), Diesel (1.70per cent), Mustard Oil (0.99per cent), LPG (0.96per cent), Cooking Oil 5 Litre (0.40per cent) and Vegetable Ghee 2.5kg & 1kg (0.10per cent) each.
Inflation in items
The items that witnessed an increase in rate on a Year-on-Year basis, included Wheat Flour (177.61%), Cigarettes (146.44%), Potatoes (123.00%), Gas Charges for Q1 (108.38%), Tea Lipton (104.28%), Gents Sponge Chappal (100.33%), Diesel (99.39%), Eggs (95.45%), Rice Basmati Broken (89.31%), Bananas (87.86%), Petrol (87.81%), Rice Irri-6/9 (84.43%), Pulse Moong (68.44%), Bread (62.83%) and Pulse Mash (60.59%).
On a Year-on-Year basis, the items which recorded a decrease in their average rates included Tomatoes (48.33 percent) and powdered chilies (6.48 percent) . –APP
