ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation in Pakistan, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator, witnessed a surge of 0.15% for the combined consumption group during the week that ended on 27 April, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.
The data revealed that the SPI in the above-mentioned group was recorded at 252.20 points compared to 251.83 points during the last week.
Compared to the same period last year, the SPI for the combined consumption group witnessed an increase of 46.82%.
The weekly SPI covers seventeen urban centres and 51 essential goods for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the least consumption group, up to 17,732 rupees, recorded a 0.15% increase and surged to 258.12 points from the past week’s 257.73 points.
During the week, out of 51 goods, prices of 21 (41.17%) items surged, 07 (13.73%) items dropped, and 23 (45.10%) items remained unchanged.
The items, which showed an increase in their average rates on a week-on-week, included Potatoes (8.22 percent), Chicken (percent), Wheat Flour (percent), Gur (1.23per cent), Bread (1.13per cent) and Rice Irri-6/9 (1.01per cent).
The goods that recorded a decrease in their average rates on a week-on-week basis included Tomatoes (19.20 per cent), Bananas (5.39 per cent), Onions (1.40per cent), Sugar (1.19per cent), LPG (1.09per cent), Pulse Masoor (0.98per cent) and Mustard Oil (0.39per cent).
Inflation on YoY basis
The commodities that recorded an increase in rates on Year-on-Year basis included Wheat Flour (175.06per cent), Cigarettes (146.44per cent), Potatoes (114.45per cent), Gas Charges for Q1 (108.38per cent), Tea Lipton (104.28per cent), Diesel (102.84per cent), Eggs (91.98per cent), Petrol (87.81per cent), Rice Basmati Broken (87.71per cent), Bananas (86.33per cent), Rice Irri-6/9 (83.39per cent), Pulse Moong (67.60per cent), Bread (61.02per cent), Pulse Mash (58.10per cent) and Washing Soap (49.93per cent).
