ISLAMABAD: In a bid to address the growing concerns regarding the possible presence of the militant group, Fitna al-Khawarij, the Tawaskhel tribe convened a significant jirga on Saturday in Kam Chashmi, located in Bannu district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to sources, around 280 to 300 local members of the tribe attended the gathering, including prominent tribal leaders Malik Tawani, Malik Nasir, and Fareed Khan.

The jirga was held to deliberate on the security situation in the area and to formulate a collective strategy to counter the suspected threat posed by militant elements.

One of the key decisions taken was the formation of a local security committee comprising 30 to 40 individuals to safeguard the Kam Chashmi area. The local administration has reportedly assured its full cooperation and support to this committee.

It was also decided that local elders would visit households suspected of having links with or sympathies for the Khawarij group. Individuals found to be involved would be sternly warned, and if they failed to comply, they would be handed over to law enforcement authorities.

Additionally, the jirga agreed that if any members of the Khawarij group are spotted in the area, announcements will be made via loudspeaker to alert the community and enable swift action. The jirga emphasised that it is the responsibility of local residents to assist in the identification and apprehension of such elements.

Sources said the local community pledged to take all necessary steps to maintain peace and declared that terrorism or unlawful activities would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Observers have described the jirga’s unified action plan as a positive step towards regional peace and stability.
