RAWALPINDI: Pakistan held a special ceremony at Joint Staff Headquarters on Wednesday (26 November) to bid farewell to General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, the country’s outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), as he is set to retire on 27 November after 40 years in uniform.
General Mirza served the forces for 40 years of exemplary military service. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the event was attended by former CJCSCs and senior officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Upon his arrival, a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent presented a Guard of Honour to the outgoing CJCSC.
In his address, General Mirza expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty for granting him the strength to serve with dedication, professionalism and selfless devotion.
He paid rich tributes to the Armed Forces for their unwavering sacrifices in the defence of the country and honoured the shuhada and their families.
He emphasised that in the current geo-strategic environment, a strong national defence remains an essential pillar of Pakistan’s security. He reaffirmed that the nation’s defence is impregnable and that officers and soldiers remain ever-ready to make it even more formidable.
