ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan stopped the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) on Friday to use the term disable for special persons and observed that the state was responsible to protect their basic rights.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah issued an eight pages judgment in a case related to the special quota for of minorities and special persons in recruitment of BPS-17 employees in Punjab. The court said that it had already ordered in an isolated case that the term of disable wouldn’t be used for special persons.
The apex court said that the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan ensured rights to all citizens without any discrimination or bias. It further said that according to international reports, the special persons lingered behind in life due to negative social attitudes and problems they face in their access to the offices.
Supreme Court on Minorities
It further observed that minorities were three percent of the total population in the country and were also given clear representation in the national flag of Pakistan.
The court stated that the founder Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah also had been emphasized the protection of minorities’ rights. The constitution of Pakistan also granted and safeguard social, religious, and financial protection to the minority community in the country.
