ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports of sports items increased by 12.75% during the eleven months of the current financial year (2022-23) compared to the export of the same period of last year.
The country exported sports items worth 370.532 million dollars during July-May (2022-23) in comparison to the export of 328.632 million dollars during July-May (2021-22), reflecting a growth of 12.75%, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) latest data.
Among the sports goods, the exports of footballs surged by 28.19%, increasing from 169.634 million dollars last year to 217.451 million dollars during the current year.
The data revealed that the gloves exports went down by 11.29% from 69.759 million dollars last year to 61.886 million dollars during the current year.
Similarly, the exports of all other sports items rose by 2.19% to 91.196 million dollars from 89.239 million dollars last year.
Meanwhile, on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the sports items export decreased by 3.27% in May 2023 as compared to the export of the same month in 2022.
The sports goods exports in May 2023 were recorded at US$ 31.763 million against exports of US$ 32.836 million in May 2022.
During the period, the export of footballs registered an increase of 21.79%.
Pakistan’s exports on MoM basis
Meanwhile, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the exports of sports items also registered a nominal decrease of 2.74% during May 2023, in comparison to the exports of 32.658 million dollars in April 2023, the PBS data showed.
On MoM basis, the exports of footballs went up by 15.39% whereas the exports of gloves and other sports items dropped by 28.23% and 25.08% respectively.
