Pakistan’s Senate Chairman Stresses Collective Efforts for Environmental Protection

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, on Tuesday emphasized the need for collective action to protect our planet.

In his message for World Environment Day 2024, he highlighted the crucial role of proactive measures in both adapting to and mitigating climate change for national resilience.

Expressing gratitude, Gilani commended the leadership of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting this year’s celebrations. He commended their efforts in advancing land restoration, combating desertification, and improving drought resilience.

Reiterating Pakistan’s dedication, Gilani emphasized initiatives such as the Living Indus Initiative, Recharge Pakistan, and Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risk reduction programs. These initiatives aim to restore the ecological health of the Indus River basin, vital for Pakistan’s population and economy.

Encouraging national participation, the Chairman called upon citizens to unite in tackling environmental challenges, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in building a sustainable future.
