BEIJING: China has renewed the registration of 279 Pakistani seafood exporting companies, allowing them to continue their seafood exports to the Chinese markets.
Ghulam Qadir, Commercial Counsellor at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing, confirmed on Tuesday that the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) had extended the registrations, which were set to expire later this month.
In the past year, Pakistan’s seafood exports to China saw significant growth, reaching $166.56 million, a 41% increase. Ghulam Qadir expressed optimism that this positive trend will continue in the future.
The boost in seafood exports is attributed to the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA), which has facilitated the entry of various Pakistani products into the Chinese market. Under this agreement, many Pakistani seafood exporters enjoy zero-traffic duty on their products, leading to increased trade between the two countries.
Pakistan’s Seafood to Chinese Market
Recently, Pakistan, in 2nd phase of CPFTA, has registered new species, which has helped increase exports to the Chinese market. Ghulam Qadir mentioned that they are negotiating with GACC to add more species to the list of seafood exports under the agreement.
Ghulam Qadir further emphasized that many Pakistani seafood exporters are eager to enhance collaboration with Chinese partners to improve exports by leveraging China’s latest technologies, techniques, and best practices in this field.
Furthermore, Pakistani seafood exporters are keen on strengthening collaboration with Chinese partners to improve exports by leveraging China’s advanced technologies, techniques, and best practices in the seafood industry.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan has also initiated seafood exports to China via a land route using containerized cargo, opening up new avenues for trade between the two nations. The seafood shipments via land routes take only 10 days to reach China, compared to the usual 28 days taken by sea routes.
