Pakistan’s Seafood Exports Increase By 16.22% to $406 Million

ISLAMABAD: The exports of fish preparations and fish climbed by 16.22 per cent during the first 10 months of this fiscal year compared to the same period of the previous year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said.

The PBS reported that Pakistan earned $406.090 million from seafood exports from July-April (2022-23) against the exports of US $349.429 million in July-April (2021-22), indicating a growth of 16.22 per cent.

It said that fish and fish preparation exports climbed by 32.58 per cent in quantity during the first ten months of last year, from 131,776 metric tons the previous year to 174,703 metric tons.

On a yearly basis, seafood exports rose by 26.62 per cent to $51.052 million in April 2023 comparison to exports of $40.321 million during April 2022.

The exports witnessed a 53.35 per cent increase in quantity, going up from 15,443 metric tons the previous year to 23,681 metric tons the current year.

According to PBS data, the seafood exports decreased by 6.66 per cent compared to the monthly exports of $54.694 million in March 2023.

Fish exports reduced by 4.35 per cent in April 2023 in terms of quantity, compared to 24,759 metric tons in March 2023.

The overall food exports from Pakistan were recorded at $4,277.586 million during July-April (2022-23) against the exports of $4,457.675 million reported during July-April (2021-22), indicating negative growth of 4.04 per cent.
