Pakistan’s President Urges Political Unity for National Development

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has called for a renewed focus on enhancing parliamentary democracy and political stability as key steps towards national development.

Addressing a dinner in honor of parliamentarians from various parties, President Zardari emphasized the importance of political unity to address the country’s political, economic, and security challenges.

The event, held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, brought together leaders from the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PMLQ), and Istehkaam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).

Key attendees included Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-Faith Harmony Chaudhary Salik Hussain, Governors of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti, President ANP Senator Aimal Wali Khan, Former Prime Minister and Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, and President IPP Abdul Aleem Khan.

In his speech, President Zardari underscored the need for political tolerance, mutual respect, and the strengthening of democratic institutions. He stressed that political, economic, and governance reforms are crucial for improving public service delivery and achieving economic prosperity. The President urged all parties to rise above partisan interests and work collaboratively for the welfare of the nation, expressing his opposition to divisive politics that harm the country.

The parliamentarians from various political parties proposed several measures aimed at stabilizing the country and providing relief to its citizens. They also praised President Zardari for his political acumen and his ability to foster consensus on significant national issues.
