Pakistan’s President Summons National Assembly, Senate Sessions Next Week

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday summoned sessions for both houses of the bicameral parliament.

The National Assembly is scheduled to meet on August 26 (Monday) at 5:00 p.m., and the Senate will be held on August 27 (Tuesday) at the same time.

The sessions are being called in accordance with the powers granted by clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

According to the National Assembly Secretariat, this will be the 9th session of the 16th National Assembly.

Local media reports suggest that the ruling coalition may introduce significant legislation during a joint session of parliament, which could be convened by the president next week.

Media reports say that the PML-N government, supported by its allies, is expected to push through crucial legislation in these upcoming sessions.

Lawmakers have been informed of the government’s decision and instructed to ensure their attendance.
