Pakistan’s President Stresses Enhanced LEAs Capacity, Prosecution to Combat Terrorism

GWADAR: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has called for strengthening capacity of the Law Enforcement Agencies’ (LEAs), stationing qualified officers and improving the prosecution system to effectively tackle terrorist elements in Balochistan.

The President expressed these views during a meeting in Gwadar on security/law and order situation in Balochistan. The meeting was attended by Minister for Interior Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, MNA Malik Shah Gorgaij, Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langov, MPA Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, and senior civil and military officials.

The President received a briefing on the security situation in Balochistan, including LEAs’ efforts in countering terrorist attacks across various districts. The province’s targeted security approach, coupled with LEAs’ initiatives, has notably improved the security landscape, with special emphasis placed on ensuring the safety of Chinese and foreign nationals.

President Zardari praised the provincial government’s efforts and LEAs’ sacrifices in combating terrorism. He stressed the need to enhance the prosecution system to ensure terrorist elements are brought to justice swiftly. Additionally, he called for increased compensation for LEAs’ martyrs in Balochistan, comparable to other provinces.

The President emphasized the importance of deploying competent and courageous police officials in Balochistan to bolster law and order. He also urged effective measures to safeguard Zaireen and enhance the socio-economic conditions of Balochistan by focusing on skill development and producing skilled professionals. Enhancing training institutions’ capacity to produce skilled human resources, equipped with foreign language skills, was highlighted as crucial for employment opportunities both domestically and internationally.

Furthermore, President Zardari advocated for supporting Balochistan’s fishing industry through financial aid and equipment provision to local fishermen. Sustainable fishing practices and curbing illegal fishing nets were also emphasized.

Political dialogue was underscored as essential for fostering prosperity, development, and peace in Balochistan. Chief Minister Balochistan expressed gratitude for the President’s visit, highlighting its significance in strengthening LEAs’ resolve and instilling a sense of ownership among Balochistan’s populace.

He stressed the need for collective efforts to eradicate terrorism and called for a national consensus on Balochistan’s development, including the timely completion of vital projects like the Kachhi Canal to address the province’s food requirements.
