ISLAMABAD: The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, who also serves as the Chairman of the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), welcomed the participants of the 2nd Meeting of COMSTECH Scientific Advisory Council.
During the meeting, President Alvi emphasized the pressing need for closer collaboration among OIC member states in the rapidly evolving fields of science, education, and technology. He highlighted the importance of leveraging scientific advancements to drive progress and development within the OIC community.
COMSTECH’s Role in Supporting Development of Science and Technology
Ambassador Askar Mussinov, the Assistant Secretary-General for Science and Technology, underscored the pivotal role of COMSTECH as an OIC institution in supporting the development of science and technology among member states. He emphasized the significance of concerted efforts by scientifically advanced OIC nations to establish scientific centers of excellence and foster a cohesive scientific ecosystem within the OIC region. He reaffirmed the commitment of the OIC General Secretariat to facilitate such collaborations through the recently established OIC-15 Dialogue Platform, in partnership with the COMSTECH Secretariat.
Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, the Coordinator General of COMSTECH, provided an extensive overview of the organization’s recent and ongoing activities. He presented the agenda items and anticipated outcomes of the meeting to the Council.
The 2nd Meeting of COMSTECH Scientific Advisory Council brought together scholars and intellectuals from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Malaysia, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, and Türkiye, both in-person and through online participation. The meeting addressed the draft of the Ten Year Strategic STI (Science, Technology, and Innovation) Plan for COMSTECH, which is yet to be finalized.
