ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Dr. Arif Alvi has appreciated the remarks made by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, in which he affirmed his government’s commitment to adhere to the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding the upcoming general elections.

Arif Alvi made these remarks during a meeting with Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Ahmed Irfan Aslam, held at the President House.

During the meeting, they discussed various matters pertaining to the upcoming general elections in the country.

President Alvi for Supremacy of Constitution

President Arif Alvi stressed the need of upholding the supremacy of the Constitution, emphasizing that all decisions should align with the constitutional principles and spirit including holding the elections within the stipulated time.

It is worth noting that Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar had earlier on Sunday said that the government would unquestionably comply and facilitate the elections if the Supreme Court mandates the general elections to be held within a 90-day timeframe.

Earlier, President Arif Alvi had extended an invitation to Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja for a meeting to discuss fixing a date for elections within the stipulated 90 days. However, the Chief Election Commissioner declined to engage in consultations with the President, asserting its ECP authority to determine the election date.

The ECP has stated that it will first carry out the delimitation process and then proceed with the elections, issuing a delimitation schedule that go beyond the constitutionally mandated 90-day timeframe.
