ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President, Dr. Arif Alvi, on Monday asked the Ambassador of Pakistan to Ethiopia to foster economic and trade connections with Ethiopia by enhancing and facilitating interactions between the business communities of both countries.
He advised the Ambassador to look for ways to increase trade volume with Ethiopia by contacting Ethiopian business people to import Pakistani goods. At the Aiwan-e-Sadr today, the President met with Mian Atif Sharif, Pakistan’s designated Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Speaking with the Ambassador, the President stated that the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Ethiopia were characterized by a common history, shared interests, and mutual support on numerous international fora. According to him, the mutual trade volume between the two nations must be maximized to cement bilateral relations further.
Collaboration Between Pakistan and Ethiopia
The President also urged greater collaboration in education and intercultural exchanges, noting that Ethiopian students could benefit from the online and video courses offered by the Virtual University of Pakistan and the Allama Iqbal Open University to develop their skill sets.
He claimed that Pakistan’s offer to teach future diplomats from Ethiopia at the Foreign Service Academy and its financial aid for banking courses would strengthen bilateral relations with Ethiopia.
The President tasked the Ambassador with raising awareness in Ethiopia about the global upsurge in Islamophobia and the necessity for collective efforts to promote religious harmony and respect. He also encouraged the newly appointed Ambassador to draw attention to the mistreatment of minorities in India and the atrocities and violations of human rights that India is committing in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
