ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari stressed the necessity of establishing ‘technology highways’ across the nation to enable students to fully benefit from the information economy.
These highways will be constructed by enhancing students’ access to IT infrastructure, strengthening educational programs, and equipping them with cutting-edge skills.
In his words, giving students laptops would improve their access to education, close the digital divide, and give them the technological know-how they need to compete in both domestic and global labour markets.
Zardari expressed these views during a meeting with Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, the Vice Chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad, who visited him at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The President was briefed by the Vice Chancellor regarding the University’s administrative operations, educational programs, and its role in providing high-quality education.
Zardari stated that Pakistan possessed a wealth of human resources which should be leveraged by providing them with the latest training and expertise. He emphasized that for Pakistan to earn foreign exchange, it needed to educate and develop its human resources to be marketable to other nations in need of skilled labour.
Zardari highlighted the crucial role of colleges in developing competent professionals who could meet the demands of both domestic and global markets. He emphasized the need to focus on producing more professionals, including teachers, engineers, doctors, and nurses.
During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor mentioned that QAU ranked among the best universities in Pakistan and 315th globally. He informed the President that the QAU was focusing on research, with digitization being its primary goal.
Additionally, Zardari stressed the importance of enhancing educational quality and proposed that top QAU students should receive Presidential Awards as recognition for their achievements, thereby encouraging them further.
