LAHORE: Pakistan’s President, Dr. Arif Alvi, has underscored the significance of women’s empowerment and their role in a country’s economy.
The President called for creating a conducive environment to take women’s participation up to 35 percent in the business sector. He was talking to a delegation from the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) at the Governor House, Lahore.
President Alvi urged the business community to create an environment conducive to women professionals, free from harassment. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts in this regard and encouraged both the public and private sectors to collaborate for the greater good.
President Dr. Arif Alvi, accompanied by First Lady Samina Alvi, discussed the necessity for concrete surveys, seminars, awareness sessions, and other initiatives to promote active women’s involvement in various business sectors.
The President also urged the LCCI delegation to take measures to spur economic revival and social welfare projects. He emphasized that cooperation within the business community could attract foreign investment, particularly in the IT sector.
Addressing the education issue, President Alvi expressed concern that despite extraordinary efforts, more than 25 million Pakistani children are still not attending school, which is a deplorable situation. He stressed the need to utilize thousands of schools and mosques for classes and implement extra shifts in schools to address this challenge effectively.
President Commends Lahore Chamber for Empowering Women
Furthermore, President Alvi highlighted the importance of individual efforts in educating domestic workers and called on the business community to support individuals with disabilities, mental illnesses, and breast cancer patients. He commended the Lahore Chamber for achieving its target of providing 25% of jobs to women.
LCCI President Kashif Anwar informed President Alvi about LABARD (Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of the Disabled), a non-profit organization operating under the patronage of Lahore Chamber’s management. LABARD has provided artificial organs to 100,000 people for rehabilitation.
The delegation praised President Dr. Arif Alvi for his unwavering dedication to addressing social and medical issues and acknowledged his significant contributions in this regard.
