ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the urgent need to bolster democratic institutions, implement crucial reforms, and work together to reinforce democracy in Pakistan.

He underscored democracy as the bedrock of a just and inclusive society, asserting that addressing the nation’s current challenges relies on a vibrant and resilient democratic process.

In his message for the occasion, President Zardari highlighted this year’s global theme, which focuses on the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance good governance. He pointed out that AI can significantly improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public administration by providing data-driven insights that make the democratic process more accessible to voters.

The President stressed the vital role of Pakistan’s Parliament in defending democracy, addressing public concerns, and creating policies that ensure inclusivity. “Our future is tied to our collective efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure that democracy endures for future generations,” he stated.

He emphasized that safeguarding fundamental rights and ensuring political, economic, and social inclusion for all citizens are at the core of democratic principles. President Zardari also paid tribute to Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, honoring their significant contributions to restoring and reinforcing democracy in Pakistan. Their legacies, he said, are a testament to the ongoing struggle to uphold democratic values amidst adversity.

The President concluded his message by calling for a renewed commitment to democratic ideals, asserting that through democracy, Pakistan can achieve socio-economic justice, equality, the rule of law, and freedom of expression.
