Pakistan’s President Approves Five More Bills

ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi, on Tuesday approved five more bills following their passage by the country’s parliament the other day.

Among the bills, the president signed the Defense Housing Authority Islamabad (Amendment) Bill 2023, which aims to amend the Defense Housing Authority Islamabad Act of 2013.

Furthermore, President Alvi assented to the Petroleum (Amendment) Bill 2023, which seeks to amend the Petroleum Act of 1934.

Additionally, the President approved the Pakistan Nursing Council (Amendment) Bill 2023, providing amendments to the Pakistan Nursing Council Act of 1973.

The Board of Investment (Amendment) Bill 2023 also received the president’s signature, introducing amendments to the Board of Investments Ordinance of 2001.

Moreover, the Pakistan General Cosmetics Bill 2023 was signed into law by the president. This bill aims to regulate the sale, purchase, quality, packaging, manufacturing, storage, and distribution of cosmetics.

President Alvi exercised his powers under Article 75 of the Constitution to endorse these bills.

On Wednesday, the President also approved two key bills — The qanun-e-Shahadat (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and Control of Narcotics Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2023 bill.

Record Legislation by Pakistan’s Parliament

It is noteworthy to mention that the National Assembly of the Parliament has swiftly adopted 53 bills within just two days, sparking strong criticism from the opposition. The opposition members blamed the government for not providing them with copies of the bills before their passage.

On last Thursday, July 27, the National Assembly managed to pass 24 bills, and the following day, Friday, an additional 29 bills were passed, raising concerns over the pace and transparency of the legislative process.
