ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari expressed gratitude to the global community for the outpouring of support and solidarity following recent tragic events in Pakistan’s capital.

He said that the messages of sympathy from world leaders, governments, and international organisations have provided comfort to grieving families and strength to the nation.

Almost all major capitals and leaders across the globe had condemned the terror attack on a mosque in Islamabad right at the time of the Jumma (congregational) prayer. They, including the United Nations, have also expressed solidarity with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.

President Zardari emphasised that terrorism and the violent ideology driving it are shared global challenges.

“Pakistan has long maintained that terrorism cannot be confronted by a single country in isolation,” he noted, adding that terrorist groups exploiting cross-border spaces pose threats not only to Pakistan but to global security.

The President raised concerns about certain neighbouring countries allegedly allowing terrorist elements to operate from their soil, and in some cases providing direct financial, technical, and military support.

He described this as a reality shaping recent regional developments and warned that such actions threaten both regional and global peace.

Expressing particular concern over the situation in Afghanistan, President Zardari highlighted that the Taliban regime has created conditions similar to or worse than pre-9/11, posing a threat to global stability.

He noted Pakistan’s eastern neighbour, referring to India, is complicit in assisting the Taliban regime, undermining efforts for peace in the region.

Despite these challenges, President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working with international partners to combat terrorism, promote stability, and achieve a decisive end to terrorism in all its forms.

He expressed deep gratitude for the compassion and support extended by the international community, which strengthens Pakistan’s resolve to continue its fight against violent extremism.
