ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized the importance of increasing collaboration and cooperation between Pakistani universities and the Rhodes Trust, based at the University of Oxford, during a meeting on Friday.
In a meeting with a delegation from the Rhodes Trust, led by former Senate Chairman Waseem Sajjad and Elizabeth Kiss, the CEO of Rhodes Trust UK, President Alvi encouraged Pakistani universities to strengthen their ties with renowned global institutions, with a particular focus on the University of Oxford.
He praised the Rhodes Trust for its scholarship programs and its support and guidance for Pakistani students, believing that counseling would help enhance their capabilities.
The President highlighted the positive impact of education and scholarships provided by the Rhodes Trust.
The CEO of the Rhodes Trust briefed President Alvi on the education sector and the scholarships awarded to Pakistani students. She expressed the Rhodes Trust’s desire to further strengthen the connection between Pakistani universities and the University of Oxford, believing that international education would empower students to bring positive changes to society.
The CEO also highlighted that Pakistani students had received Rhodes scholarships in various fields, including politics, law, science, arts, and governance. Notably, several distinguished Pakistani individuals, such as former Senate Chairman Waseem Sajjad, Judge Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court, and Shahid Javed Burki, have benefited from Rhodes scholarships.
