ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction of PKR 1.89 per unit in the uniform electricity tariff for domestic consumers over the next three months.
According to a notification, the authority “decided to allow the application of instant quarterly adjustments on the consumers of K-Electric as well, with the same applicability period.
“Accordingly, the instant quarterly adjustment of negative PKR 1.8881/kWh (per kilowatt hour) shall also be charged from the consumers of K-Electric except life line and prepaid consumers, to be recovered in a period of three months, from August 2025 to October 2025.”
NEPRA announced that the discount will be applied to electricity bills issued before the notification date for the relevant period, noting that distribution companies (Discos) are expected to comply with court directives.
In a separate development, NEPRA also approved a negative fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of PKR 0.78 per unit for consumers of all ex-Wapda distribution companies (XWDiscos), excluding K-Electric (KE), in their August bills.
NEPRA decided that the FCA “shall be applicable to all consumer categories except lifeline consumers, protected consumers, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) and pre-paid electricity consumers of all categories who opted for pre-paid tariff”, the notification read.
“In case any bills of August 2025 are issued before the notification of this decision, the same may be applied in the subsequent month,” NEPRA said.
Earlier in June, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched a mobile application that allowed power consumers to record and submit their meter readings themselves.
The government said the initiative will lead to more transparency in the system and reduce overbilling.
Pakistan in June had also abolished the electricity duty in power bills from the month of July.
