ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Islamabad’s unwavering support for the people of Iran in the face of Israel’s unprovoked aggression.

He made the remarks during a phone conversation with Iran’s President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday.

The premier said that Pakistan stood resolutely in solidarity with the brotherly people and the government of Iran in the face of Israel’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression.

He strongly condemned Israeli attacks against Iran, “which violated its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and were in complete defiance of the UN Charter and international law.” The prime minister said Iran had the right to self-defence, as provided under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

While expressing heartfelt condolences to President Pezeshkian over the loss of precious lives in the attacks, the Prime Minister recalled Pakistan’s support for Iran at the United Nations Security Council’s emergency meeting, held yesterday.

He denounced Israel’s blatant provocations and adventurism as a grave threat to regional and global peace and stability. He also strongly condemned Israel’s unabated genocidal campaign against the valiant Palestinians, carried out with complete impunity.

The premier urged the international community and the United Nations to take urgent and credible steps to put an end to Israel’s aggressive behaviour and its illegal actions. He stated that Pakistan was fully committed to promoting peace in the region and stood ready to play its role in this context.

Iran acknowledges Pakistan’s support

President Pezeshkian thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s support and solidarity with Iran at this difficult time, particularly at the UN Security Council. “This gesture reflects the close and brotherly relations between the two countries.”

He apprised the Prime Minister about Iran’s perspective on the crisis with Israel and urged the international community, particularly the Islamic countries, to work together closely to counter these threats.  Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact.

He said that he spoke with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian to express Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran in the face of Israel’s unprovoked aggression.

“Grateful to President Pezeshkian for appreciation of Pakistan’s unwavering and principled position at the UN Security Council calling out  Israel’s blatant aggression against Iran, Palestine, and others in the region,” he said.

“We agreed that the international community, particularly the Ummah, must act together to halt these grave violations,” the PM added.

Unjustified and illegitimate aggression

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, delivering the country’s official stance during a United Nations Security Council briefing, strongly condemned Israeli military strikes on Iran, calling them “unjustified and illegitimate aggression.”

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad asserted that Israel’s actions were a “grave danger” to regional and global peace.

“Pakistan stands in resolute solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran. We offer our sympathies and condolences on the loss of life and damages due to these heinous attacks,” he said.

On Friday, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, also spoke by phone to the Foreign Minister of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

Condemning the blatant Israeli aggression against Iran in total disregard of the UN Charter and international law, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s strong support for the government and brotherly people of Iran for achieving peace and stability in the region, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.

Israel conducted strikes on Iran early Friday, killing nearly 80 people in Iran, including high-ranking military officers, and injuring over 300 civilians, according to Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Saeed Iravani.

Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri, Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami, and other military and civilian figures were assassinated in Israeli strikes in Tehran.
