NEW YORK: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday expressed Pakistan’s support for the Global Development Initiative Cooperation Outcomes and commended the milestones achieved in its implementation, a PM House statement said.
Addressing a High-Level Meeting on Global Development Initiative Cooperation Outcomes on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, the PM lauded the successful launch of the Inter-Agency Task Force on GDI.
Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the GDI on 20 September 2022.
PM Kakar in his views highlighted that progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) has suffered a serious setback due to Covid-19 pandemic, conflicts and climate change.
BRI, CPEC important vehicles for achieving SDGs
The Prime Minister stressed that China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are important vehicles for realizing the SDGs.
He stressed the need for action in five key areas including food production, infrastructure investment, industrialization, resilient healthcare systems and the bridging the digital divide.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the need of adequate and appropriate finance at all levels of the development process and welcomed President Xi’s announcement of the setting up another fund of $10 billion for the implementation of the GDI.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan looks forward to boosting its cooperation with China and other members of the Group of Friends of GDI to realize their collective aspiration for implementation of the SDGs.
Vice President of China, Han Zheng, President of the General Assembly Dennis Francis and other high-level dignitaries also attended the meeting.
