ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that boosting the country’s IT exports is a top priority for his government.
Speaking with a four-member delegation of the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), led by Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific at GSMA, Sharif outlined the government’s plans in Islamabad today.
He highlighted that the Federal Government has allocated a record budget for the development and promotion of the IT and telecom sectors in the current fiscal year.
Sharif shared his vision of ensuring that every person has access to a smartphone, broadband internet in every home, and QR code facilities in all businesses.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s focus on improving internet accessibility for the public, enhancing digital infrastructure, advancing e-governance, providing vocational training in digital skills to youth, and fostering innovation and business growth.
He noted that an action plan for IT sector reforms and digitization is actively being implemented.
Additionally, Sharif acknowledged GSMA’s crucial role in advancing digitization efforts. The delegation briefed the Prime Minister on GSMA’s contributions to promoting telecom services both in Pakistan and globally.
