ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the government’s commitment to investigating the recent threat letters received by several judges, including Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa.
Chairing a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad today, PM Shehbaz stated, “The government of Pakistan will thoroughly investigate the threatening letters sent to the judges.”
His remarks follow reports of multiple judges from the Supreme Court, Islamabad High Court, and Lahore High Court received such letters. Among those who received such letters include all judges of Islamabad High Court, Chief Justice of Lahore High Court and senior judges of the top court.
The issue arose shortly after the Supreme Court took suo motu notice of allegations made by the IHC’s chief justice and other judges against spy agencies.
Regarding privatization, the PM affirmed the government’s commitment to the privatization schedule of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and mentioned an upcoming visit by a Turkish company’s delegation to discuss the outsourcing of the country’s airports.
Additionally, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and provincial governments to ensure the security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan, particularly following a recent deadly suicide attack in Shangla’s area of Besham that left five Chinese engineers dead.
