ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered ensuring the vaccination of children aged between 5-12 against the coronavirus on a war footing.
Chairing a meeting to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country on Tuesday, the premier expressed his satisfaction that the virus was under control.
PM Shehbaz also urged to make coronavirus screening of inbound airport passengers. He ordered to hire a third party to prepare a report about screening system installed at the country’s airports and border areas.
Satisfaction over Covid situation
PM Shahbaz said it was a good sign that no death was reported during the last 15 weeks due to coronavirus. However, he cautioned that despite the low positivity ratio, we should prepare ourselves to deal with any crisis. He also applauded the efforts of the NCOC and its officials for containing this virus.
On Monday, the National Disaster Management Authority asked the National Institute of Health (NIH) to issue new precautionary advisories for educational institutions and social gatherings and conduct weekly media briefings due to the threat of the new BF.7 Omicron variant of Covid-19.
It was decided during a review session presided over by NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik and attended by an NIH and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) team. The session reviewed the Covid-19 situation and surveillance mechanisms at airports.
NIH officials told the forum that screening tests and vaccination of pedestrians were being executed at the Torkham border daily.
