ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to visit the United Kingdom in May to attend the historical coronation ceremony of British King Charles, according to local media reports.

The coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 6 at Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. PM Shehbaz will reportedly be accompanied by members of the federal cabinet during his visit.

In addition to attending the coronation ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to hold a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Supremo Nawaz Sharif, who is currently residing in the UK on medical grounds.

PM Shehbaz is also scheduled to meet with his British counterpart to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and education.

King Charles become monarch in September

King Charles became the monarch of the United Kingdom and 14 other realms on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, in September, but the coronation ceremony in May will be full of pomp, pageantry and solemn religious significance.

During the ceremony, Charles will take an oath to uphold England’s law and the Church. He will also be presented with several ornate golden orbs, sceptres, swords, and a ring, which all form part of the Crown Jewels.

The Archbishop will then place the heavy St Edward’s Crown on his head, used in coronations for the last 35 years. Charles’ wife, Camilla, will also go through a simpler mini-coronation ceremony as queen.

The visit of Pakistan’s prime minister to the UK for the coronation ceremony of King Charles is expected to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
