Kuwait’s National Day
Every year, the National Day in Kuwait is celebrated on February 25. This special day commemorates the day when Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah became the ruler of Kuwait in 1950. Sheikh Al-Sabah was an exceptional leader.
During his regime, he signed a treaty that secured Kuwait’s independence from Britain, ending its status as a British protectorate in 1961. During Al-Sabah’s rule, the Constitution of Kuwait and the Parliament of Kuwait were formally established.
The first celebrations were held in 1963. Kuwaiti people celebrate this day by visiting different places, hanging out with friends, watching fireworks at night, and more. People decorate their houses with flags, colorful lights, and even candles lit at dinner time.
