Pakistan’s PM Eyes IT Park in Islamabad to Boost IT Exports to $25 Billion

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed the concerned authorities to ensure the timely completion of IT Park in Islamabad as well as the other projects of the Information Technology (IT) sector.

During a review meeting held to assess IT projects and export growth strategies, PM Shehbaz Sharif underscored the project’s significance in achieving the ambitious goal of increasing IT exports to $25 billion.

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the IT Park project, which is set to play a crucial role in bolstering Pakistan’s IT export capabilities. The project is being developed with the collaboration of a Korean company, which has accelerated its completion timeline from June to February of the coming year.

“The IT Park will be a milestone in our journey towards achieving our $25 billion IT export target,” PM Shehbaz Sharif stated. He directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the IT Park, along with other IT sector projects, is completed on schedule. The IT Park is expected to serve as a catalyst for domestic IT exports, fostering growth and innovation within the sector.

The meeting also highlighted the progress of the digital smart cities initiative, which is being launched initially in Islamabad. This project aims to provide citizens with easy access to 150 government services through a unified mobile application, known as the Islamabad City Super app.

Services offered by the Capital Development Authority, Islamabad Police, and Health and Education departments will be integrated into this application, streamlining service delivery for residents.

In the final stages of the project, the federal government plans to extend these digital services nationwide through the mobile application. PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of encouraging citizens to utilize mobile applications for accessing government services, which is expected to enhance convenience and efficiency.

PM Shehbaz said that citizens should be encouraged to use mobile applications for government services.

The meeting was also briefed about the performance of the IT sector in the last five months during which IT exports have increased by 30 percent compared to last year.

The meeting was informed that in the last five months, 300,000 have registered for training in IT skills programs while four new incubation centers were also launched during this period.

The meeting was also given a detailed briefing on investment in various projects of IT sector and step-by-step increase in IT exports from them.
