KARACHI: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Friday expressed the government’s keenness to harness the potential of modern technologies to improve access to preventive and curative healthcare, especially for vulnerable segments of society.
Addressing the HealthTech Summit organized by the Aga Khan University, the premier said the transformative impact of technology in the health sector, describing it as an exciting era for patients, healthcare providers, and the government.
PM Kakar sought support from experts and professionals utilizing modern healthcare technologies, emphasizing that providing universal health coverage is a constitutional responsibility. He envisioned that through technology, the government could fulfill its goal of delivering quality health services. Additionally, he acknowledged the crucial role of the private sector and philanthropists in achieving the dream of universal health coverage.
Highlighting the significant advancements, PM Kakar mentioned that gene therapy is now a reality, not fiction. He underscored the power of digital technology and artificial intelligence in expediting diagnoses. The prime minister commended the Aga Khan University as a national asset, praising its global ranking and its contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, including training professionals and establishing health clinics in flood-affected areas.

PM Kakar recognized AKU graduates as ethical leaders and innovators positively impacting society and urged other institutions to adopt similar best practices. He acknowledged the institution’s services in Pakistan and abroad, attributing them to the vision and generosity of Prince Aga Khan.
