Pakistan’s PM Convenes Cabinet Meeting to Discuss Exacerbated Electricity Bills

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has convened a cabinet meeting on Tuesday to address the public’s concerns regarding inflated electricity bills. The meeting aims to discuss recommendations aimed at providing relief to the masses who have been protesting against higher electricity charges.

Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, revealed that the Ministry of Energy has concluded its deliberations and finalized recommendations related to the issue of electricity bills. These recommendations were formulated during a high-level meeting held at the Ministry of Energy. Solangi shared this update through a social media post.

Countrywide Protests Against Electricity Bills

The recommendations will be presented to the Federal Cabinet during its scheduled meeting on Tuesday for approval. The government is striving to address the public outcry over surging electricity bills, which have triggered widespread protests and public dissatisfaction.

In parallel, the caretaker Minister for Energy, Power, and Petroleum called on the prime minister to deliberate on various aspects of power tariff, electricity billing, and potential relief measures. The matter of providing free electricity to government employees was also on the agenda.

Local media reported that the federal cabinet would also explore the possibility of allowing citizens to pay their electricity bills for the month of July in installments. This approach aims to ease the financial burden on households and mitigate the concerns of the public.

The meeting comes in response to the growing demand for action on the issue of high electricity bills, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing the legitimate concerns of its citizens.
