Pakistan’s PM Congratulates SAARC on 39th Charter Day

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar felicitated the South Asian Association for Regional Countries (SAARC) member states and their people on the occasion of the 39th SAARC Charter Day. He underscored the significance of unity and cooperation among member states to unlock the true potential of the region.

In his message, the premier reflected on the historical significance of December 08, 1985, as the day when visionary leaders adopted the SAARC Charter, committing to collaborative efforts for the progress and prosperity of South Asia.

“This day reminds us of the responsibility placed on our shoulders by our peoples, to address the common challenges of poverty, illiteracy, disease, and under-development,” he stated.

The prime minister emphasized SAARC’s vast potential to serve as a robust framework for transforming the lives of over two billion people in the South Asian region. As one of SAARC’s founding members, Pakistan has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the organization’s objectives by actively participating in its processes and activities.

Expressing Pakistan’s belief in the strength and potential of regional cooperation, the prime minister stated, “Result-oriented regional cooperation can be achieved only by adhering to the cardinal principles of sovereign equality and mutual respect.”

He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to the SAARC process and expressed confidence that current obstacles to the organization’s smooth functioning would be resolved, enabling member states to progress in mutually beneficial regional cooperation.

The prime minister commended the SAARC Secretariat’s efforts for the organization’s seamless operation and extended well-wishes for peace, progress, and prosperity to the people of South Asia.
