ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has reaffirmed its commitment to further fortify the country’s response to HIV.
Recognizing the multidimensional impact of HIV/AIDS beyond a health crisis, the Prime Minister addresses the grim reality of wide gaps in testing and treatment coverage within the prevailing HIV epidemic in Pakistan. Reflecting on the situation, he prompts introspection: Are efforts reaching those in need? Are tests reaching those who require them? Is the strategic focus aligned correctly?
Despite years of collective endeavors, resources, and programming, the trajectory of the epidemic persists. Critical barriers and challenges persist, urging a heightened commitment to combat the HIV epidemic through innovative, impactful, and sustainable programming. The government acknowledges the imperative for greater stewardship, prioritizing both political and financial aspects of HIV prevention.
Prime Minister said that primary goal of his government to address gaps in the service cascade, particularly in preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission. By redoubling efforts in this area, the aim is to envision a society where every child is born free from the burden of HIV. Embracing new prevention tools, the government underscores the importance of swift and widespread implementation to ensure services reach every corner of the nation, narrowing healthcare access disparities, especially for segments at an increased risk of HIV, he said.
Prime Minister Kakar called upon all partners engaged in the HIV response to collaborate with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination. The appeal is to join forces in taking timely action to safeguard the well-being of future generations, emphasizing unity and collaboration.
