ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday evening to attend the opening session.
Federal Ministers Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Attaullah Tarar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi and Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Ambassador Munir Akram are also accompanying the Prime Minister at the UNGA inaugural session.
Earlier, the Prime Minister arrived in New York to attend the 79th session of the UN General Assembly during his five-day official visit to the United States. He is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Friday.
In his address, the Prime Minister will highlight Pakistan’s perspective on a range of international and regional issues of concern, including the Kashmir dispute and Palestine issue.
The Prime Minister will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism and support for the role of the UN in fostering global peace, security and prosperity.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to attend several high-level meetings, including discussions on existential threats posed by sea level rise and the United Nations Security Council’s open debate on ‘Leadership for Peace’.
The Prime Minister will also hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders and call on the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as well.
PM Shehbaz Sharif will also meet World Bank President Ajay Banga and International Monitory Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
More than 130 heads of state and governments from across the world will attend the UN General Assembly session.
