ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Shehbaz Sharif Coordinator on National Health Services Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad has said that the government aims to establish Pakistan as a leading producer of pharmaceutical products.

Speaking at the Pharma Export Summit in Islamabad on Wednesday, the PM’s aide emphasized the need to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and supports sustainable growth within the pharmaceutical sector.

Dr. Ahmad highlighted the government’s commitment to developing the pharmaceutical industry, noting various initiatives such as the strengthening of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). He mentioned that the digitization of DRAP is set to be completed soon.

He also pointed out that the pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan has evolved significantly over recent decades, playing a crucial role in meeting local healthcare needs and contributing to economic development.

Currently, the local pharma industry fulfills 90% of the country’s domestic requirements, which he deemed commendable. Dr. Ahmad expressed confidence that further investment will continue to flow into this sector.
