ISLAMABAD: Both Houses of Pakistan’s Parliament on Friday passed resolutions condemning Israeli strikes on Iran as unjustified and illegitimate aggression.
Lawmakers voiced alarm over the escalating conflict, describing Israel’s actions as a full-scale war against a sovereign nation and a grave violation of international law and the UN Charter.
Attack a “war crime”
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar presented the Senate resolution, which was swiftly adopted. The text of the resolution branded the attack a “war crime,” warning that Israel’s actions had endangered not only regional but global peace.
The resolution also condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza, where children continue to be killed, highlighting what it called Israel’s pattern of brutality across the region.
In a parallel move, the National Assembly (Lower House) echoed the condemnation with its own strongly worded resolution.
“Utter disgust and dismay”
The House expressed “utter disgust and dismay” at the June 13 strikes, calling them a blatant breach of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity – a violation that Pakistan’s lawmakers said could set a dangerous precedent for global instability.
Underscoring Iran’s right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the resolution placed full responsibility for the consequences of the escalation squarely on Israel.
Unshakeable solidarity
Lawmakers also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unshakeable solidarity with the Iranian government, parliament, and people, offering heartfelt prayers for the lives lost.
Calling for swift international engagement, both Houses urged the Pakistani government to immediately initiate emergency sessions of the United Nations Security Council and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to demand an end to the hostilities and hold Israel accountable.
