ISLAMABAD: The Met Office has forecast light rain in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and snowfall in Pakistan’s hilly areas over the weekend.
It said that snowfall could block roads and disrupt vehicular traffic with landslides predicted in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Met Office has alerted the authorities concerned to roll up their sleeves on January 6 (evening/night) as a westerly wave was expected to approach north Balochistan.
The Met Office has forecast rain in the Pothohar region from today. The Met Office has predicted partly cloudy weather with light rain in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Today’s weather
The Met Office has forecast dry and cold weather in most parts of the country, while a very cold weather in north Balochistan and its adjoining areas during the next 24 hours.
The Met Office has predicted dense fog over the plain areas of upper Sindh, Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Air quality
The Met Office said that the air quality in Lahore is 242 US AQI; in Bahawalpur, it is 177, 211 in Muridke, and 181 in Rawalpindi. In Sindh, the air quality in Karachi is 183 US AQI, 152 in Mirpur Khas, while Islamabad’s air quality stands at 185 AQI. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, air quality is 435 in Peshawar and 84 in Abbottabad.
Recorded temperatures
According to the Met Office, a maximum of 5 degrees Celsius (°C) temperature was recorded in Islamabad, 5°C in Lahore, 17°C in Karachi, and 5°C in Peshawar, 7 °C in Quetta and 3°C in Gilgit.
Minimum recorded temperatures
Today’s lowest minimum temperature of -15 °C was recorded in Leh, -14°C in Skardu, -11°C in Astore, -10 °C in Gupis, -09 °C in Hunza and Kalat -08 °C in Kalam, Ziarat and Gilgit, -07 °C in Bagrote, -06 °C in Parachinar and Dir and -04 °C in Rawalakot.
