Pakistan’s Meat Exports Increase by 37.22% in First Month of FY 2023-24

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Meat and meat-related exports during the first month of the current fiscal year went up by 37.22% as compared to the exports of the same period of last year.

In July 2023, nearly 8,910 metric tons of meat and meat products valued at 9.926 million dollars were exported, in contrast to 5,705 metric tons worth 25.408 million dollars in the corresponding period last year, according to the latest data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Meanwhile, 10,284 metric tons of fish and fish products valued at 18.980 million dollars were also exported during the period under review, in contrast to the exports of 8,084 metric tons worth 18.572 million dollars in the corresponding month of last year.

During the first month of the current fiscal year, seafood exports increased by 2.20%, whereas the exports of fruits went up by 4.61%.

In July, food commodities valued at 329.156 million dollars were exported as compared to the exports of 356.073 million dollars in the corresponding month last year, which was down by 7.56%.

Pakistan’s Trade Deficit

It is to be noted that the trade deficit recorded a decline of 41.16% during the first month of the current financial year (2023-24) as compared to the same month of last year.

The trade deficit during the month under review was registered at 1.607 billion dollars against the deficit of 2.731 billion dollars in July 2022, a decline of 41.16%. The exports during the month were witnessed at 2.057 billion dollars against 2.250 billion dollars last year, showing a drop of 8.57%.

On the other side, the imports registered a sharp decline of 26.44%, falling from 4.981 billion dollars last year to 3.664 billion dollars during July 2023.
