KARACHI: A new motorway project, designated as M10, is set to enhance connectivity between the important cities of Karachi and Hyderabad. The planned route will pass through key areas, including Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Hub Chowki.
This initiative aims to divert heavy port traffic directly to Hyderabad, significantly easing congestion within Karachi. The Sindh government has stressed the need for comprehensive planning to ensure the project’s success.
Once completed, the M10 is expected to greatly reduce travel times, improve traffic flow, and enhance road safety by offering an alternative route for heavy vehicles. This will not only reduce the burden on Karachi’s inner roads but also lower the risk of traffic accidents.
The M10 project forms a vital part of broader infrastructure improvements across the city, designed to modernize the transportation network and support economic growth in the region.
Authorities have assured the public that the project will be completed on schedule. Upon completion, the M10 motorway is anticipated to become a critical transport corridor, contributing to a safer, more efficient, and less congested urban environment in Karachi.
Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has also emphasized the urgent need to complete critical road infrastructure projects in Sindh, including the M-10 motorway.
He stressed that without proper linkage to the port, these projects would remain incomplete, undermining their national significance.
According to data released by rescue sources on Saturday at least 376 people have lost their lives and 5,503 others sustained injuries in various road accidents across Karachi during the first 151 days of 2025.
Of the deceased, 289 were men, 40 women, 37 boys, and 10 girls, highlighting the widespread impact of road traffic incidents on all age groups and genders.
The data also shed light on the specific role of heavy vehicles, which were responsible for 120 of the fatalities this year alone.
