Pakistan’s IT Services Export Surges to $1.4 Billion in First Half of FY 2023-24

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has recorded significant growth in its Information Technology (IT) services export, earning US $1,454.881 million during the first six months of the fiscal year 2023-24, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The reported figure reflects an impressive increase of 8.98% compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, during which Pakistan earned US $1,334.969 million from IT services exports.

A breakdown of the data reveals that the export of computer services experienced a notable growth of 10.32%, reaching US $1,174.481 million from July to December 2023-24. Within this category, the export of hardware consultancy services saw a significant surge of 3.401%, amounting to US $404.875 million, while the export of computer software services also increased by 2.79%, totaling US $310.807 million.

Pakistan’s Export of Computer Services

However, certain segments within the computer services sector witnessed slight declines. For instance, the export of software consultancy services experienced a nominal decrease of 180%, reaching US $3.333 million. Similarly, the export of repair and maintenance services decreased by 39.15%, totaling US $0.930 million.

Meanwhile, the export of information services dipped by 19.72%, amounting to US $1.750 million during the same period. Notably, while the exports of information-related services increased by 3.64% to US $0.712 million, the exports of news agency services decreased by 30.48%, reaching US $1.038 million.

The data also indicates a 3.89% increase in the export of telecommunication services, with total exports rising to US $278.650 million. Within this category, the export of call centers services surged by 12.14% to US $119.994 million, while other telecommunication services witnessed a slight decrease of 1.58%, totaling US $158.656 million.
