ISLAMABAD: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted the launch of “China Leads,” authored by Dr. Junaid Ahmad, featuring insights from distinguished scholars.
Ambassador Masood Khalid, former Ambassador to China, commended the book for its in-depth historical context, tracing China’s evolution from an ancient civilization to a formidable global player under the Communist Party. He noted its valuable insights into China’s socio-economic development and its significant role in international relations.
Khalid praised the thorough examination of historical periods, China’s modernization under Mao Zedong, and its current direction under President Xi Jinping. He suggested that future editions incorporate discussions on China’s Global Development, Security, and Civilization Initiatives to enhance its relevance for researchers and policymakers.
Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, former Director of the China Study Centre at COMSATS University Islamabad, highlighted the book’s comprehensive portrayal of China’s ascent as a global leader, emphasizing its cultural, geopolitical, and ideological dimensions. He pointed out the strategic use of soft power and its influence on global perceptions, particularly regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In his remarks, Dr. Junaid Ahmad stressed that “China Leads” showcases the wisdom encapsulated in over 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and asserts that China has historically been a defender rather than an aggressor. He noted that Chairman Mao laid the groundwork for China’s global stature by establishing it as a nuclear power in 1964, with subsequent leaders like Deng Xiaoping and Xi Jinping guiding its evolution toward a market economy and enhancing its global leadership across various fields.
Dr. Talat Shabbir, Director of the China-Pakistan Study Center at ISSI, welcomed attendees and characterized the book as a timely and insightful exploration of China’s leadership journey in innovation and peace. He underscored China’s transformation into a global leader in economics, technology, and diplomacy, encapsulated in the book’s narrative.
Ambassador Khalid Mahmood reflected on China’s remarkable journey since 1949, shaped by Confucian philosophy and consistent leadership under the Communist Party. He emphasized China’s role as a stabilizing force in the evolving global landscape, advocating for multilateralism and cooperative initiatives, in contrast to Western unilateralism.
The event attracted a diverse audience of academics, diplomats, government officials, and civil society members, underscoring the growing interest in China’s impact on global affairs.
