TEHRAN, Iran: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to arrive in Tehran today (Sunday) to participate in a high-level trilateral conference aimed at addressing border management and facilitating the movement of pilgrims.
Initiated at Pakistan’s request, the conference will bring together the interior ministers of Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq, state-run Pakistan Television reported.
The meeting aims to address key challenges surrounding the movement of pilgrims and other mutual concerns.
The trilateral dialogue, set to take place tomorrow (Monday), aims to develop coordinated strategies for improving border security and facilitating safer, smoother pilgrimages across the region.
During his visit, Minister Naqvi is also expected to hold a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss bilateral and regional matters of mutual interest.
In May, Interior Minister Naqvi held a meeting with the Interior Minister of Iran, Eskandar Momeni, during his visit to Tehran.
Both sides had agreed to keep the Pakistan-Iran border open 24/7 for pilgrims during Arbaeen and Muharam-ul-Haram.
The Interior Minister of Iran said that the Iranian government will provide boarding and lodging facilities in Mashhad for 5,000 Pakistani pilgrims; moreover, the Iranian government will make special arrangements from the border to Iraq for them.
Both countries agreed to establish a hotline to resolve issues concerning pilgrims swiftly. They also agreed to increase the number of flights to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims.
