ISLAMABAD: Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, has intensified consultations for the formation of the interim cabinet. According to a local news channel report on Tuesday, Kakar aims to keep the cabinet small and personally review the profiles of potential candidates to ensure their suitability for the roles.

“I don’t want to put more burden on the country suffering from economic problems,” Kakar reportedly conveyed to his associates, emphasizing his commitment to alleviating the financial strain faced by the nation. He further expressed his desire to minimize protocol and avoid unnecessary expenses, prioritizing the well-being of the populace.

Potential Candidates for Federal Cabinet

Notable figures under consideration for caretaker ministerial roles include former foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, former civil servant Shoaib Suddle, former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Ahsan Bhoon, former senator Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti, and distinguished columnist and former police IG Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema. Additionally, former information minister Muhammad Ali Durrani is expected to be assigned the Ministry of Information portfolio.

The news channel’s report indicated that Muhammad Ali Durrani is likely to be offered the Ministry of Information, while key members of Kakar’s administration, including Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Dr Syed Tauqir Hussain Shah, Ahad Cheema (former advisor to PM), and joint secretary Mohib Ali, have been retained.

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, a former senator and leader of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), was sworn in as the eighth caretaker prime minister of Pakistan. His mandate includes overseeing the country until the upcoming general elections, scheduled to take place in the coming months.

The process of deliberations for the caretaker federal cabinet is set to commence, with the possibility of an announcement later in the week, according to media reports.
